IELTS Overview
- IELTS is a globally recognized English proficiency test designed to assess non-native English speakers abilities in four key areas: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
- The IELTS exam is offered in two formats: Academic and General Training, each with its own specific Reading and writing sections, while the Listening and Speaking sections are identical.
IELTS Pattern
- The IELTS pattern in 2025 will consist of four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking.
- The entire exam, including both the written and speaking sections, takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete.
Breakdown of each section:
Listening – 30 minutes.
Reading – 60 minutes.
Writing – 60 minutes.
Speaking – 11 to 14 minutes.
IELTS Syllabus
- Listening – 4 recorded sections with 40 questions
- Reading – 3 academic passage with 40 questions
- Writing – Task 1 = Data description and Task 2 = Essay
- Speaking – Part 1 = Introduction, Part 2 = Long turn and Part 3 = Discussion
IELTS Scoring
- Each section is evaluated separately, with a band score assigned to each.
- Overall band score is calculated by averaging the four individual section scores.
- The average is rounded to the nearest whole or half band e.g., 5.5, 6.6, 7.5.
- Overall Band score = 9 Bands.
- Good core – 7.5 + Bands
Validity of IELTS exam – IELTS test results are generally considered valid for two years from the test date.
